Something Interesting

SMS application development is not popular among most of the developers because in order to do so they have to have a good knowledge about different mobile protocols. Even though half of the population of Sri Lanka have mobile phones most of those phones don't have the facilities to use JAVA mobile applications. Therefore most of the Sri Lanken mobile phone users prefer SMS applications. Problem is due to the lack of developers mobile phone service providers can't cater to different SMS application needs of the customers. Etisalat with the collaboration of hSenid mobile solutions provide a platform for developers to develop and test their applications.

Developers who are interested can go to http://www.appzone.lk/ and register and start developing SMS applications. Simulators, Sample Codes and all the necessary documentation available there. This is a great opportunity for developers to develop their own SMS applications and earn some money.

  1. Forgive me for sounding so stupid, but what's an SMS application? Is it the same as an iPhone app?

  2. SMS applications are applications stored in mobile service provider's servers and execute according to the received SMS. Customers can send SMS which contains necessary information according to the application specifications to use those applications.

Example: type NEWS and send to 6688 to receive news updates
or type DDS(space)NO to vote for your favorite singer.

Unlike SMS apps applications like iPhone apps stored in mobile phone and use mobile phone resources to execute.
